We spent a week in Nashville.
We started by going to the Tennessee State Capitol completed in 1859. It was one of the few capitols that we have seen that has not burnt down. The capitol was built with a material so it would not burn down like many of the other State Capitols. When the architect died they attempted to use wood but they would not let them because of the fire danger. The architect was actually buried in the capitol. It is a beautiful but relatively small Capitol. There was very little marble used in the construction compared to most of the others we have seen that had a lot of marble. It sits up on a hill and the grounds are beautiful. While in Nashville we did some bar hopping like the good old days looking for talent.
Shirley and I wanted to dance on the bar but when we decided we would we saw this sign and then decided against it since we wouldn't be covered if we got hurt. Oh well, maybe next time. There was a father son team that was pretty good and when we walked by one bar we saw Craig Young who had been in the bar. He got up and sang his number one hit. That was pretty cool. We went in Tootsies a popular hang out and tried to get into The Stage but Miranda Lambert was playing that night and you could not get in because she had a private party. Could you believe that we were not even invited?
We looked at the Grand Ole Opry but no one we knew was playing so we saved our money. We did go in the Ryman Museum, that was a very nice free museum. In downtown Nashville we went in the Country Music Hall of Fame, another great museum. It told the whole life story and 3 generations of Hank Williams. We spent a few hours here because there was so much to do and so many older country stars that you don't hear much anymore. It was very interesting.
These cowboy boots were worn in every concert appearance by Hank Williams the third from age 15 until January 2008. They look a little worn to me :) From Nashville we went to Cumming, GA. We got to visit with Jeanne, Frank Traci and her kids. We went to a soccer game but missed Austin playing. He let us know when we got there when he said, “you missed my game”! Oops
We went to a couple of quilt shops and I spent 2 days sewing. Other than that it was a quiet four days. As usual I love visiting with Jeanne.
We went to Savannah, GA and spent a few days there. Now we are at Patrick Air force Base near Cocoa Beach, Florida. Tomorrow we go to the Kennedy Space Center. I will write more later.
