We are finally in California. Boy does it take a long time to get across Texas. But there is something to look forward to there. Ok, so our friends Jack and Diane from Florida said that when we got to Texas that we had to get off on exit 49 and go north for about 5 miles. The Cattleman’s Steak house is a must. Well, we had no schedule so after about 5-6 hours of driving we pulled off the road at exit 49 and headed north. Well wouldn’t you know it, they had a place for us to park for the night (no charge). I guess they figured the price of the meal would take care of that :).
They have a little wildlife area that you can visit and a lot of animals that just roam around. There are peacocks everywhere. I have never seen one that spread its feathers for me. Well there was this one guy who wanted to show off. He spread his beautiful feathers and just walked in circles so we could see him from all sides. Incredible!
Another area had rattle snakes.I know Shirley would have loved these so here is a picture just for her. Coyotes were wild and looked very well fed.
There was a resident dog that someone dropped off 13 years ago. I guess the people when they leave give him their left overs (we didn’t because it looked like he had plenty of bones in the past).
Anyway, back to the main reason for the visit, the steaks. Jerry had a 2 pound porterhouse and I had a 10 oz New York Strip.
Wow, they were wonderful and not terribly expensive. Well they were cheaper than a tank of diesel for the RV. Less than $100.00 and we had a bottle of wine to boot plus we bought four pounds of steak tips to go.
If anyone wants a very enjoyable evening then this is a must on your travels.
Today we drove about an hour to Wilderness Lakes to play pickleball and visit with our friends from Florida, Will and Ella. After pickleball Ella made a wonderful Chicken Pot Pie and the best Bread Pudding that is made by anyone. Of course the meal was topped off with a haircut for me:) Thank You Will and Ella for a great time.
Hey U 2 - Glad you had a good trip west, and that you've arrived safely at your California destination. We really miss you guys - Have a wonderful summer and tell everyone we said HEY!!! We arrived in Cocoa Beach today at our timeshare and had our first walk on the beach this evening --- great breeze!! Take care
